BCG Matrix on JD Edwards in Oracle BI

With our BI & Analytics solution for JD Edwards, you can create a BCG Matrix with just a few clicks. BCG stands for the Boston Consulting Group, which introduced a business insight in the 1980s to evaluate how a company’s products are performing. This matrix divides products into four quadrants:

  • Cash Cows
  • Stars
  • Dogs
  • Question Marks

In Oracle BI (BICS and OBIEE), you can easily create a similar analysis with JD Edwards BI. In this example, we categorized products based on sales volume and revenue generation. This produces the following visualization for each product group:

Zooming in on the yellow bubble at the top reveals two subgroups:

Delving deeper into individual items, the analysis looks like this:

For each product, this immediately highlights which items you might want to discontinue or invest in:

These analyses and visualizations were created in about half an hour. With some additional effort, you can include comparison metrics relative to last year, allowing you to identify true growth or decline. This demonstrates once again the immense value of these data analyses.
